Delora Whisenant Veal

On March 11, 2026, Delora W. Veal, affectionately known as ‘Shorty,’ passed away at the age of 96 and was reunited with her Lord and Savior. ‘Shorty’ was her lifelong nickname because she was the shortest of her three sisters.  Delora was born in Pisgah, AL and grew up with a loving and hardworking family. She carried that up bringing to Birmingham, Alabama where she met the love of her life, her late husband Clarence of 54 years. They loved playing Pac Man, Nintendo, dominos and many other games with their family. Delora was an avid reader and gardener of both vegetables and flowers. Over the years, she found great joy in tending her garden, often spending hours pulling weeds so the flowers could flourish. In her later years, anyone who met Shorty quickly fell in love with her sweetness and kindness, as well as her spirited way of making sure she always got what she wanted.

Delora is preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Vallie Lee Whisenant, one sister Aileen and her loving husband Clarence Veal and their precious daughter Sandra Kay. She leaves behind her grandchildren; great grandchildren; her sister, Loretta Caldwell; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong neighbors. Her family and friends will miss her dearly as well as many others who have loved her over the years.

A private burial will be held at a later date at Green Haven Memorial Park, Jackson County, AL.
