Donna Metcalf Oboyle

Nov 24, 1964 — Mar 18, 2026

Donna Metcalf O’Boyle, 61, of Charlotte, NC, entered Heaven in the early morning on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. She passed peacefully holding her daughter’s hand after a five-year battle with cancer.

Born in Rutherford County, NC on November 24, 1964, she was the beautiful red-headed daughter of Hubert Lee Metcalf and the late Judy Faye Hill Metcalf. Donna grew up a member of Big Level Baptist Church in Mill Spring, NC and was a graduate of East Hendersonville High School in Flat Rock, NC; class of 1983. She was a Licensed Cosmetologist and “worked her magic” in the industry for over 35 years, opening up her home and heart to her clients.

Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was raising her favorite (and only) daughter, Casey Scruggs. In addition to Casey, she is survived by her admired son-in-law, Wesley Scruggs and her three adored grandsons, Grayson Scruggs, Cole Scruggs and Jack Scruggs of Charlotte, NC. She was a hands-on Nonna and a constant presence in her boys’ lives.

She is also survived by her father, Hubert Metcalf (wife Ann) of Green Creek, NC; her brother, Rev. Timmy Metcalf (wife Diane) of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Linda Motola of Hendersonville, NC and Leigh Ann Edwards of Green Creek, NC; as well as several close Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by brothers, Joey Metcalf and Buddy Brevard; her daughter’s father, Jeff Gilliland; and her once in a lifetime beloved pets, Colby and Greer.

Donna was full of color and the brightest light for all those who knew her. She poured her heart into all her relationships and found immense joy in cooking and sharing meals with her closest friends and family. She rejoiced in God’s blessings and lived even her hardest days with gratitude and grace. Her warmth was infectious, her love was unconditional and her faith was unwavering. Donna’s legacy will be celebrated every day by those who knew and loved her deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Belk Chapel on the campus of Queens University of Charlotte — 2287 Radcliffe Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28274.
