Dorothy "Dot" Earp

November 6, 1926 — June 6, 2026

Dot Earp passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026.

Dorothy (Dot) Earp was born 11/6/1926 in Nashville, TN. She met Charlie Earp, stationed in Nashville, at a USO dance. They married in November, 1944 and moved to Charlotte when Charlie got out of the service.

Kids came along in 1946 (Bill) and 1949 (Jim). The family moved to Steele creek area in 1957 and quickly found a host of friends in Steele creek Presbyterian church. Dot was elected the first woman deacon in the church and later ordained as the first woman elder in the church breaking glass ceilings along the way. She volunteered to visit “unchurched“ people in the hospital where she found Bill a wife of 56 years.

Dot was always a gifted seamstress. Her hands were never idle. There was no sewing challenge she would not tackle. Evening gowns, wedding dresses, dinner jackets. When grandkids and great grandkids came along, Disney princess dresses were a really big hit.

She crocheted blankets and toboggans for hospice kids, even kids in Africa. She had numerous other projects for hospice patients until the last few months.

While these activities held her interest, she also had time to travel all over the world with Charlie and Jim. She is preceded in death by husband Charlie and son Jim.

She is survived by son Bill, wife Ruthie, their 3 kids Carla Ferrara, husband Mike, David Earp, wife Wimberley, Charlie Earp, wife Cheryl and six great grandchildren.

She led a full and enriching life, cherished her family and will be truly missed.
