Karan Porter Dewar

Karan Porter Dewar, 75, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday August 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. While her family grieves the tremendous loss of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, they also celebrate a life that was deeply loved, faithfully lived, and filled with purpose. Born September 10, 1950, in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Brown Lee, Jr. “Spec” and Winnifred Taylor “Pug” Porter.

At the heart of who Karan was, was an enormous heart and her gift for serving others. She had a remarkable ability to put the needs of others before her own and found genuine joy in caring for the people around her. She volunteered countless hours through her church over the years, giving her time, energy, and love wherever she was needed. Caring for others was not simply something she did, it was part of who she was. Even in the final days of her life, she continued to think about and care for others.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and was an active and faithful member of her church, where she served others and participated in a Bible study for many years. Her faith gave her strength throughout her life and, ultimately, gave her peace as she approached the end of it. In her final days, she shared that she was ready to go home and be with the Lord.

Karan had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger and seemed to find a reason to smile wherever she went. She had a fun-loving sense of humor and a wonderful ability to make people laugh. Even as she grew weaker in her final days, she continued to joke, laugh, and put those around her at ease. That was simply who she was—someone who thought about how other people were feeling, even when she herself was facing something incredibly difficult.

She loved her friends dearly and treasured the relationships she built throughout her life. Her friendships were genuine and lasting, and she was deeply grateful for the people who walked alongside her through the years.

But above all, Karan cherished her family. Her love for them was unconditional and unwavering. She shared a beautiful marriage with her husband, Wayne, a relationship filled with love, devotion, friendship, and partnership that was admired by everyone who knew them. Their love was an example of what it means to truly walk through life together.

She adored her children and grandchildren and loved each of them completely and without condition. Her family knew they could always count on her love, her encouragement, her laughter, and her unwavering support. She was proud of them, delighted in them, and cherished every opportunity to be part of their lives.

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts she left her family was the peace with which she faced the end of her life. She said that she had no regrets. She had seen the things she wanted to see, experienced the things she wanted to experience, loved deeply, served faithfully, and given everything she had to the people she loved. She was ready to go home.

Karan leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by accomplishments or possessions, but by the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, faith, humor, and love. Her family will carry her with them in the way they care for one another, serve others, laugh often, love deeply, and live with the same faith that guided her throughout her life.

She will be profoundly missed, but her family finds comfort in knowing that she is home with the Lord she loved so dearly.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, Wayne Dewar; her children, Kimberly Harber and her husband Scott, Jeffrey Ray, Darrell Dewar and his wife Colleen, and Danyele Smith and her husband Jimmy; her grandchildren, Abbey, Emma, Ellison and Anderson Coppage, Alex Smith and his wife Alexandria, and Shelby Smith; her sister Theresa Kendrick and her husband Tom; and countless friends who were blessed to know and love her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving brother Donald Lee Porter, and sisters-in-law, Gail Dunning and Joan Dewar.

A celebration of Karan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Weddington Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Road, Weddington, NC 28104.
