Kathryn Ann Gilchrist

Kathryn Ann Gilchrist, 76, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at the Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC.

Born on September 29, 1950, at York County Hospital in Rock Hill, SC she was the daughter of the late W.P. Gilchrist, Sr. and Eina L. Gilchrist of Rock Hill, SC. She graduated from Rock Hill High School and Winthrop University with an undergraduate degree in French. She subsequently earned a Master’s in French, an MBA, and a Masters in English as a Second Language.

Kathryn taught English as a Second Language in the Mecklenburg County School System for twenty years. She loved her students. Fluent in French and Spanish, she traveled extensively in Europe and South America. She fondly recalled her childhood vacations at Windy Hill Beach, SC and Montreat, NC.

She is survived by two brothers, William P. Gilchrist of Rock Hill, SC and Alfred D. Gilchrist of Montrose, CO; nieces: Kimberly G. Weed of Gilbert, SC, Miriam G. Cox of Blackstock, SC; nephews: Mathew Gilchrist of Augusta, GA and Paul Gilchrist of Clayton, NC.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in passing by her loving husband and proud Texan, James F. “Jim” Crook.

Kathryn will be remembered for her love of learning and her dedication to her spiritual commitments.

A celebration of life is currently being arranged by the family.
