Kwai Choi Cheung
Oct 11, 1939 — Jul 21, 2026
Kwai Choi Cheung, 86, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026. He was a devoted father, a loving husband, and a trusted and cherished friend to many.
He worked hard all his life, above all to provide for and take care of his family. As a young man, he sailed the seas, traveling to many parts of the world and gathering a lifetime of stories along the way. He later came to America, where he became a skilled chef. His remarkable cooking delighted countless customers, from New York City to Charleston, South Carolina, and he took quiet pride in the joy his food brought to others.
He generously dedicated his time and energy to volunteering at the Charlotte Truth Buddhist Temple, a place close to his heart. In his free time, he found peace and pleasure in gardening, cooking for those he loved, and keeping up with the news of the world.
He was a simple man with a big heart – deeply caring toward his family and all who knew him, and always willing to give of himself for others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His nephew Steven remembers him warmly: “Your dad was a wonderful role model – loving, caring, hard working – and nurtured my ambitions as I was navigating NYC Chinatown.”
He is survived by his wife, Sau King Cheung, and his son, Marcus Cheung.
