Susan Rogers Healey

On Friday, August 7, 2026, Susan Daly Rogers Healey passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Born in Pampa, TX, on May 19, 1941, to Walter E. Rogers and Catherine Regina Daly Rogers. She grew up in Pampa, TX, with her parents and six siblings until she was ten years old, when her family moved to Washington, D.C., after her father was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1950. Growing up in Chevy Chase, she attended Blessed Sacrament School, Georgetown Visitation College Preparatory School, Georgetown Visitation Junior College, and then graduated from Marymount University in 1962 with a degree in Merchandising. After graduation, she became an assistant in the Bridal Department at Garfinckel’s Department Store. She was later chosen to head the inaugural Bridal Department at Saks Fifth Avenue, which led to her becoming a Buyer for the Couture Department at SFA. She had several well-known Washington society clients. Eventually, she branched out on her own and opened Susan Healey Interior Designs, designing homes and offices, which she owned and operated until her retirement in the early 1990’s.

In 1960, while on a Spring Break vacation with friends in Bermuda, she met James C. Healey, Jr. of Bronx, New York. They later married in the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Washington, D.C., in February of 1965. The two enjoyed many travels over the years to countries such as Africa, China, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Singapore, and Argentina, however, no places were more dear to them than Bermuda or Southampton, New York, which they returned to each year. They adopted their son, James C. Healey, III (Jace) in 1972 and daughter, Susan Caperton Healey (Cape) in 1975. Susan was always present in her children’s lives, volunteering at school events, attending their multiple sports games, and participating in many other activities. She especially loved being involved with Georgetown Visitation College Preparatory School, of which she and her daughter, Cape, are both alumni of. Susan was very active in many charitable organizations such as the Junior League, Catholic Charities, and The Barker Foundation, to name a few. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1985, she became a staunch advocate for the National MS Society.

Despite her diagnosis with MS, Susan never let her physical limitations keep her from enjoying all that life had to offer. She continued to travel to her favorite destinations, as well as even making the journey to Lourdes, France, with dear friends who were members of the Knights of Malta. In true fashion, rather than assuming that the journey was for her, she focused on other individuals she met on the trip and prayed for their comfort and healing. Susan rarely turned down a party invitation, dinner engagement, or shopping trip, and she always found a way to enhance her mobility as best as she could. She constantly wore a smile on her face and rarely complained, no matter the challenges she faced.

Upon her retirement, she focused her energy on her five grandchildren, Aiden Boyd, Katherine Boyd, James Healey, IV (Jacs), Anna-Elise Healey, and Brendan Boyd, who affectionately called her Mimi, a nickname she shared with her own mother. She and J.C. moved to North Carolina in 2017 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They resided in Matthews, NC at the time of her passing.

Susan is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, JC, her two children, James C. Healey, III “Jace” (EJ) and Susan C.H. Boyd “Cape” (Brian), and her five grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, John Rogers, Walter Rogers, Thomas Rogers (Linda), and Samantha Cutter (Ladd), her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mulvihill (Daniel) and her brother-in-law, John Healey, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Rogers, and her beloved sister-in-law, Marilyn Rogers. Susan had a beautiful life filled with many friends and was special to so many. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for all of those who lovingly reached out to share their prayers and support in Susan’s final weeks of life.

The family has chosen to mourn and honor Susan privately.
