Christopher Justice Campbell

Christopher Justice Campbell, affectionately known as CJ, passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 32, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him deeply.

CJ was born to Tabatha Stevenson and Chris Campbell and was the older brother to Gaven Campbell. He was an old soul with a gentle heart who loved and cared deeply for his family. Those who knew CJ knew how much his family meant to him. He loved spending time with his brother and cousins, looking after them, and caring for them — sometimes vocally, sometimes quietly, but always keeping them close in his heart and worrying about their well-being.

CJ was happiest spending time with his many hobbies and interests. He loved reading, gaming, writing, exploring new topics, and spending time in nature. He had a thoughtful and curious spirit and loved getting lost in a good story, whether on the page or on the screen. He also enjoyed exploring new places and experiencing the beauty of nature, especially when he could share those moments with the people he loved.

More than anything, CJ will be remembered as a thoughtful and caring soul. He was someone who offered words of advice, insight, and encouragement to his friends and family. He had a deep love for those closest to him, and his presence brought a sense of quiet comfort and security to the people around him. His absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled.

CJ fought a deeply personal battle with mental health, a struggle that was not always visible to those around him. Although that battle ultimately ended in his death, it does not erase how hard he fought or the life he lived. His family hopes that by speaking openly about his struggle, CJ’s story can help others recognize that they do not have to suffer in silence.

If you are struggling, please know that you do not have to face those struggles alone. There is no shame in admitting that you are hurting, no shame in saying that you are not okay, and no shame in asking for help. Reach out, speak openly, and allow others the opportunity to walk beside you. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is let someone know that we need them.

In CJ’s memory, his family encourages everyone to lead with compassion, to check on the people they love, and to listen without judgment. Sometimes the people who seem the quietest may be carrying the heaviest burdens.

CJ’s life was so much more than the way it ended. He was a son, a brother, a cousin, a friend, and a deeply loved member of his family. He will be remembered for his thoughtful heart, his gentle spirit, his curiosity, his love of nature and stories, and above all, the love he had for the people around him.

He was loved. He is missed. And he will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, September 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the community center at Lake Norman State Park.
