Tranny Alfonso Reid Sr

Tranny A. Reid, affectionately known as Butch, was born on May 24, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and passed away on December 30, 2024, in Richmond, California. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Oria Lee Reid, and his sister, Virlee Berry.

Butch graduated from Westinghouse High School and spent part of his working years at the Iron City Uniform Rental. He was a staple in the community as he owned and ran the neighborhood store, Reid Grocery Store. His love for God was always an anchor in his life.

Butch was an athlete from his early years, excelling in tennis, basketball, and softball. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he never missed a game. His love for Southern cuisine was evident in his enjoyment of fried fish, chitterlings, and other Southern delights. Butch had a keen sense of style and was a proud member of the infamous "BS Club," a social group celebrated with its custom-designed patched logo which Butch himself created. Music was another of his passions, and in his later years, he found joy and camaraderie singing in the choir at the Bay Area Rescue Mission.

Butch is survived by the mother of his children, Cindy Rowe; his beloved son, Tranny Reid Jr. (Pamela Reid); and his cherished daughter, Tamira Wilson (Raymond Wilson). He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Tiara Murphy, Sydney Reid, and Jordon Reid. Butch's loving sisters, Rev. Betty Quintilla Williams, Phyllis Maxine Reed, and Antonia Zedd-Mullen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, will forever treasure his memory.

A celebration of Butch's life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11:00-1200pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where family and friends are invited to gather in honor of his memory. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. This Celebration will also be streaming on the Mt.
