Daniel Brian Crannell

Jun 26, 1954 — Oct 21, 2025

Daniel Brian Crannell, June 26, 1954 to October 21, 2025.

Dan died peacefully at home. As one of the residents in Dan’s group home said; “Dan just got tired of breathing.”

Dan was born before vaccinations were available and at the age of two, he contracted measles and complications damaged his brain and caused seizures for years. Despite his ongoing health struggles Dan found great joy in life. He loved bowling, fishing, his AA groups, and dressing up in costumes and funny hats. His church family was very dear to his heart, and he thoroughly enjoyed ANY social gathering, taking pictures (he left behind over 60 photo albums), and celebrations with his family.

Dan lived in the same group home for nearly 30 years - the residents there were like brothers (Jim, Richard and Paul). The staff were wonderful and treated Dan like family and with great compassion and love.

Dan is preceded in death by his father, Donald Crannell and survived by his mother, Rose Crannell, siblings Sylvia (Ron), Jamie (Diane) and Crystal (Ward) as well as five nieces/nephews: Marissa (John and great nephew Rowan), Nini, Keegan, Sage and Katrina.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 31st at 11:00 with a visitation starting at 10:00. Emmaus Lutheran Church, 1074 Idaho West, St. Paul, MN 55117.

In honor of Dan’s love of silly adornment and to reflect his joy for life, feel free to wear costumes, funny hats, and holiday accessories. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Arc Minnesota, a nonprofit organization serving people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. They provided services, education, and much-needed support to Dan and his family when he was young. https://arcminnesota.org
