Jerry Phillips

Jerry Phillips, a longtime resident of Sutter County for 51 years, passed away at age 68, peacefully at his home in Yuba City, CA , on April 15, 2026.

Born on November 15, 1957, in Marysville, California , Jerry spent his early childhood in Yuba City before relocating to Millard, Nebraska, at the age of eight. There, he experienced a traditional Midwestern upbringing, complete with snow days and the occasional tornado. At 16, he moved with his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he attended and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1975.

Following graduation, Jerry returned to the Yuba-Sutter area, where he attended Yuba College and played football as a defensive end and outside linebacker. A passionate football fan from a young age, he remained a loyal supporter of the Los Angeles Rams. He had an impressive knowledge of NFL statistics and a remarkable memory for the game-qualities that could have made him an exceptional statistician or talent scout.

After college, Jerry followed in his family's footsteps by becoming a licensed general contractor. He went on to devote more than five decades to serving his community with exceptional craftsmanship, integrity, and pride. Through his work, he helped shape countless homes and projects throughout the region.

Jerry will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his unwavering work ethic, and his stoic strength, as well as his wonderful sense of humor and his signature, breath-holding belly laugh. He had a special gift for bringing smiles to those around him. He valued honesty above all and found meaning in life's simple, lasting moments.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, of 36 years, Donna; his children, Jessica Cubbler (Stephen), Jacob Phillips (Kody), and Alexandra Phillips; and his stepson, Branndon Sauls. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paige, Preston, Jackson, Cristiano, and Xander; his brother, Jim Phillips (Millie); and his niece and nephews.

He is preceded in death by Merle Neibarger (mother), Don Phillips (father), Oretha and James Rogers (grandparents) and William and Louise Phillips (grandparents).

Jerry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. With a reception to follow.
