Lorraine Ellen Maskell
b. May 8, 1956
Lorraine Ellen Maskell, was the oldest child of Leroy and Nadene Hilbers. She was born on May 8, 1956, at Rideout Hospital in Marysville, CA.
Lori spent her childhood in West Yuba City, CA, on Patton Ave. After 8th grade graduation from Franklin School, Lori and her family moved to East Gridley, CA, into a new subdivision that her father was developing.
She attended Gridley Union High School and loved being a free-spirited teenager out in the country.
After high school she went into the medical field and became an LVN. During this time, Lori married Jim Campbell. Soon after, Luke was born, and 16 months later Bryan came along.
While juggling a young family, she went back to Yuba College and became a registered nurse "RN." During that time, Lori and Jim separated.
Several years later she met John Maskell, also an RN, while working in the ER at Rideout Hospital. They married in 1990. John had a son, Jason, and they became a happy family.
Lori was diagnosed with MS in 1989 and lived with the disease for the rest of her life. Lori continued to work in the ICU at Rideout until her body couldn't take the 12-hour shifts anymore.
She finished her career as a home health nurse which lasted about 3 years. The disease forced her into early retirement in 1999.
As the disease progressed over the next 10 years, Lori went from walking with a cane and then into a wheelchair.
Through all of this, Lori maintained a great attitude and was an inspiration to all those around her. Her faith, family, and friends were always very important to her.
Lori became a grandmother and loved her three grandchildren, Autumn, Trenton and Christian, more than anything. John and Lori loved each other, and he stood by her side during her battle with MS.
Lori was preceded in death by her husband, John Maskell; father, Leroy Hilbers; and mother, Nadene Hilbers.
Lori is survived by her sons, Lucas, and Bryan Campbell Maskell, and Jason Maskell; three grandchildren, Autumn, Trenton and Christian; three brothers, Kurt Hilbers (Mary), Larry Hilbers (Joan) and Glenn Hilbers (Lisa); as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11 AM, at First Lutheran Church, 850 Cooper Ave., Yuba City, CA. The Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service in the chapel next door to the church.
