Thomas John O'Donnell

Thomas  John O'Donnell passed away on August 26, 2026 at the age of 71 - in Las Vegas Nevada.  Tom enjoyed an extended musical residency, a fitting setting for a man whose life was deeply intertwined with music.

Born on October 19, 1954, Tom was the third child of the late Lawrence and Grace O'Donnell of Somerville, New Jersey.  Tom was raised in Scotch Plains and Somerville New Jersey after leaving New York with his family at a young age.  New Jersey is where he developed a love for music that would remain with him throughout his life. He later moved to the greater Boston area, never far from the bustling music scene and semi-retired to Florida.

Tom played drums most of his life before finding his voice as an acoustic guitarist and songwriter.  Music remained constant throughout his life providing both creative expression and connection with others.

Tom was Irish through and through.  He was known for his amazing recall, charm, and quick wit as well as his tall tales and Irish goodbyes.  He knew how to hold an audience.  He could tell a long card story using every card in the deck.  He could draw well, cook well and play well.  The life of a working musician has its ups and downs but Tom never gave up on his dream.

Tom came from a large family and was blessed to have three wonderful children and six amazing grandchildren.  Tom is survived by his daughter, Tracy O'Donnell, and her children, Anthony, Corey and Mason; his son, Thomas O'Donnell; his daughter, Rhiannan Stitley (Joe) and their children, Jackson, Brayden and Emily.

Tom is also survived by his siblings:  Ellen Spingler (Rick), Lawrence O'Donnell (Maryann); MaryJane Johnson(Robert); Janet O'Donnell and Nancy Smith (Wallace) along with a many nieces and nephews.  

Tom was predeceased by Patricia Berenger - the mother of Tracy and Thomas.  He is also remembered by Michelle Sisco, the mother of his daughter Rhiannon. 

Tom was surrounded by many local Las Vegas musicians who supported and honored him when he passed away.  Many thanks to all of them for being by his side throughout his illness.
