Allen Joseph Ghimenti

Sep 27, 1946 — Oct 19, 2026

Allen Joseph Ghimenti, Sr. passed away calmly in the evening of October 19, 2026 at the age of 80 surrounded by loved ones and with peace in his heart. He lived a full life devoted to his greatest loves, his family, country, and God.

Allen was born September 27, 1946 in Chicago, IL. At just the age of 19, Allen married the love of his life, Patricia Mary Ghimenti, whom he shared 43 years of marriage with until she passed away in 2008. He now dances with her again in Heaven. Together they had three children, Bernette, Lee Anne, and Allen Jr. whom they raised in Barrington, IL until they moved to the shores of Lake Griswold in McHenry, IL.

During the Vietnam war, Allen proudly served his country in the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division where he bravely and valiantly fought in critical battles and missions, including serving as the General’s top-secret radioman under the call sign “Bald Eagle Alpha”. His patriotism remained steadfast throughout his life, reflected in his reverence for the American flag, always inspiring others to display it properly and with honor. His years of service awarded him a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, among other distinguishing honors.

Strong-willed and fiercely protective of those he loved, Allen also had a joyful heart and a playful spirit. He was a natural storyteller who loved sharing memories, being silly, and bringing smiles to those around him. He valued passing on his life lessons learned to those around him.

Throughout his life, Allen held a deep appreciation for nature and animals, finding joy in even the simplest moments. Whether feeding the fish at the lake, the birds, or the squirrels in the backyard, to spending time with horses, he cherished caring for the creatures around him. He found special companionship with his beloved dogs Cali and Jojo, with an honorable mention to Jetstar, his faithful best friend and service dog of 10 years.

Allen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Mary Ghimenti, his parents, and his brother. He smiled in his last days at having become the longest-living ‘male’ Ghimenti.

Allen is survived by his children, Bernette Snelgrove, Lee Anne McNamee, and Allen J. Ghimenti Jr.; his grandchildren, Brooke Snelgrove, Todd Snelgrove, Marley Raeder, and Mia Ghimenti; his sister, Michele Damian; and his niece and nephew, Sarah Damian and Dylan Damian.

His courage, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, to be remembered always and forever.

In accordance with his wishes, Allen will be cremated with his ashes buried next to the love of his life, Patricia, at the Barrington United Methodist Church in Illinois. No formal services will be held per his request. Please feel encouraged to share your memories of him here.
