Eugenie Kamrath Mygdal

Eugenie “GeeGee” Kamrath Mygdal was born November 25, 1939 in Houston, TX to Eugenie Sampson Kamrath Gonzalez and Karl Fred Kamrath, Sr. She died March 25, 2026 in Fort Collins, CO at the age of 86.

GeeGee is survived by her husband of 60 years, William “Bill” Mygdal, Ed.D., daughter Christina Mygdal Lang, MD, Son-in-law, Steve Lang, grandchildren Meredith A. Lang and Matthew K. Lang, brother Thomas R. Kamrath and many nieces, nephews and other family members.  GeeGee was preceded in death by her son, Peter Karl Mygdal, MD, her parents, and brothers, Karl F. Kamrath, Jr. and John “Jack” R. Kamrath.

GeeGee grew up in Houston, TX, attending River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School.  She attended Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, PA for one year after high school graduation.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity.  She continued her arts education at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze in Florence, Italy before obtaining her Masters of Arts degree with an emphasis in bronze casting from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.

She and Bill married in 1965 in Houston, Texas.  After short stays in Houston, TX, Baytown, TX and Boulder, CO, GeeGee and Bill moved to Waco, TX, where they lived for 33 years.  GeeGee taught at the Art Center Waco for many years.  In 2006, GeeGee and Bill moved to Fort Collins, CO to be closer to her family.

A lifelong artist, GeeGee left a legacy of beauty and creativity to all who knew her and her work.  Her life size bronze sculptures can be seen at The University of Texas Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, Austin, TX (you’ll find a photo of her sculpture on the home webpage, www.texasexes.org/about-us/alumni-center ); Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center, Austin, TX; Austin State Supported Living School, Austin, TX, St. Lukes United Methodist Church, Houston, TX and Waco City Hall, Waco, TX.  Portrait busts may be viewed at the Baylor University Law School, Waco, TX, Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, Waco, TX and McLennan Community College, Waco, TX.

A family member stated beautifully that “the world is more beautiful because of GeeGee’s time here.”

A celebration of life and art will be held at her home art studio this summer in Fort Collins, CO, August 1, 2026 from 3 to 6 pm.  Burial will be private.
