Lois Virginia Borland (Funkhouser)
Jan 4, 1935 — Oct 17, 2026
Lois Virginia Borland (Funkhouser), 91, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on October 17, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Lois was born on January 4, 1935 in Springfield, MA to Walter Leon and Elvira Belle Funkhouser. She was the youngest in her family with older twin sisters, Betty & Dotty. During her childhood they moved six times with her father’s work in Federal housing projects for WWII wartime needs and post war housing.
James and Lois met at Michigan State University and were married (1956) for seventy years! She graduated with a degree in Home Economics and taught high school foods/ nutrition and sewing classes during the early years of their marriage.
Although they moved many times, some of Lois’ fondest memories were on a small farm in Northern Illinois where they resided for thirteen years. After vacationing in Colorado for several years, they moved to Fort Collins in 1976, fifty years ago! Lois cherished living in the “west” and the many friendships they developed over the years through running family businesses. Lois will be remembered most for her “keeping it simple” attitude to focus on her family and create lasting memories.
Lois is survived by her husband, James (Jim) S. Borland, her children, Anne L. Pray (John); James W. Borland; and David J. Borland. Two grandchildren, Emily S. Pray and Andrew A. Pray (CeeJay).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Matthews House Fort Collins.
Her celebration of life will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church, 531 S. College Ave, Fort Collins. Reception to follow.
