Rick Anthony Robbins was born on December 11, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio, to Vernon K. and Deanna Robbins. He grew up in the Midwest, living in Chicago and Champaign, Illinois, and graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1986.

After college, Rick moved west to pursue his passion for firefighting. He fought wildland fires in Colorado, Nevada, California, and Alaska. A dedicated smokejumper, he served on several hotshot crews throughout his career, earning the respect and lifelong camaraderie of his fellow firefighters.

Rick was a gifted abstract artist who created many striking works and continued making art throughout his life. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and found peace in camping, hunting, fishing, and birdwatching.

A devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, Rick collected sports memorabilia, marbles, and other small treasures. He was especially known for carrying “mojo” in his pockets — often a marble or special piece of glass — which he would share with those he loved.

Hockey was one of Rick’s greatest joys. He loved coaching youth hockey and took pride in watching young players grow and develop their skills. He later shared his love of skating with his granddaughter, becoming her enthusiastic “figure skating grandpa.” His greatest happiness came from sharing the things he loved with the people he loved most. He loved his work at EPIC and with the City of Ft. Collins and considered them all family.

Rick is survived by his wife, Lisa Keeton; his stepdaughter, Robin Kivette; Anthony Alvarez; and his beloved granddaughter, Ava Ray Alvarez. He is also survived by his parents, Vernon and Deanna Robbins; his sister, Chimene Pellar (Michael); his nephew, Nicholas Pellar; and his nieces, Sophia and Anastasia Pellar.

Rick will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his free spirit, friendliness, creativity, loyalty, and the profound love he shared with his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Fort Collins Figure Skating Club (where his granddaughter proudly skates) https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/in-memory-of-rick-robbins or to Northern Colorado Youth Hockey, where he shared his love of the game as a coach and friend.
