Lemuel Loggins Council
February 3, 1951 — April 12, 2026
Lemuel (Lem) Loggins Council was born February 3, 1951, son of Dora Hager Council and Lemuel Loggins Council in Victoria, Texas. He died in his home in Wellington, Colorado on April 12, 2026.
Lem spent his childhood in Houston, Texas, a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the balance of his school and college years in Bloomington, Indiana. He played center for the University High School “Univees” basketball team, graduating in 1969. In 1973 he graduated from Indiana University with a major in Anthropology.
After seeing the Colorado area on a ski trip, Lem moved to northern Colorado in 1977. Lem had a keen knowledge and appreciation for music. He and a friend opened Ash Mountain Records near the UNC campus in Greeley. After that endeavor, he moved to Loveland and began to work in the commercial construction industry, his livelihood until he retired.
While employed in Loveland he met Mary, his future wife. They were married in Loveland in 1985. Around that time, Lem had a profound encounter with Jesus Christ and gave his life to God. That decision was subsequently confirmed and demonstrated to him when, by faith, Lem embraced sobriety and enjoyed this freedom for the rest of his life.
After he retired Lem continued to use his construction skills to help friends, neighbors and family, always willing to lend a hand and his expertise. Lem also worked for Fitness One in Wellington as maintenance staff. He became a regular at the gym as well. It was an association he deeply enjoyed, the physical activity and the many people he befriended there.
Lem was an avid home gardener, tending his vegetables and anticipating the bounteous harvest. Tomatoes and cucumbers were his pride and joy, the surplus often shared at the gym.
Lem was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Brown, his father, Lemuel Council, his two brothers, James Council and David Council, and his sister Rosanna Council Raper.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Council, his son, David Council (Elyse McDonald), and his stepchildren, Christina Nacos (Matt Quinn) and John Nacos. He has three grandchildren, Caleb Evanson, Joshua Evanson, and Charles Nacos.
Lem was a loyal friend, gracious father and grandpa, and to his wife a cherished partner. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Timberline Church (east auditorium) May 1st at 11am.
