Betty Ruth Whitsel Dungan

Betty "Ruby” Whitsel Dungan quietly passed away December 16, 2019 in Loveland, CO. Betty was born in Long Pine, NE on May 5, 1927 and graduated high school from Chadron Prep School in Chadron, NE where she met Gerald "Jerry” Whitsel. They were married in Chadron, NE in December 1944. In 1951, the couple moved from Ainsworth, NE to Loveland along with several other couples when work began on the Big Thompson Water Project. Her husband Jerry continued working for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation until his retirement.  They were married for over 50 years until Jerry’s passing in 1996. They had three children, Terrence "Terry”, Randall "Randy”, and Tracey. Ruby found love again when she married Tschudy Dungan in 1997 until his passing in October 2000. Ruby is a past volunteer for McKee Medical Center and the Chilson Senior Center. She enjoyed her friendships in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Zuleima Club, White Shrine, Loveland Woman’s Club and many card groups including bridge. Both her husbands were Masons, Shriners and ELKS and she especially enjoyed socializing with and entertaining friends in her home. She actively supported her children with their activities in church, school, sports, Scouts, and 4-H. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, ballroom dancing, reading and finding treasures at garage sales. She is survived by her brother-in-law Larry Whitsel (Dee) of Cherry Valley, IL; son Terry Whitsel of Windsor, CO; daughter Tracey (Wayne) Ellis of Windsor, CO; and grandsons Austin Ellis of Colorado Springs, CO and Dalton Ellis of Windsor, CO. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Nancy Whitsel of Lakewood, CO and Bev (Tom) Finlay of Deer Island, OR. She is also survived by Tschudy’s son Mike (Debbie) Dungan and daughter Louise Summer of Jefferson County, CO and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and son Randy. Ruby was an active wife, mother, grandmother and volunteer in Loveland for many years and will be missed dearly.
