Erland Oscar Urban

Erland "Earl" Oscar Urban, age 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2026 at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. He was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Oscar Emil Urban and Lorna Wilde Urban on December 20, 1948.
Erland was baptized on January 16, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. In 1958 he and his family moved to Plankinton, South Dakota. Living on a farm he enjoyed hunting for pheasants, raised pigeons, swam every day at the city pool during the summer and was on the B-squad basketball team in his sophomore year of high school. In January of 1965, Erland and family moved to Loveland, Colorado. He graduated from Loveland High School in 1967 and attended Aims Community College in Greeley.
Erland was drafted into the Army in March of 1968. He was sent to Europe to become a paratrooper and served with the elite 173rd Airborne Brigade "Sky Soldiers". He jumped out of planes over 20 times. In January 1970 he achieved the rank of Sergeant and in March of 1970 was discharged from the Army. He received several awards including the Parachutist Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Expert Marksmanship Badge and the Sharpshooter Badge.
After leaving the Army, Erland met and married his first wife, Linda Baran in 1972. They welcomed a baby girl, Karla Lynn Urban, on October 8, 1973. In 1974 they moved to Connecticut where Linda was from and were later divorced. Erland remained in CT to be near his daughter. He met his second wife, Eileen Scanlon, at square dancing which they enjoyed for many years. After dating two years, they were married on July 31, 1982. They welcomed two sons, Erland Thomas Urban and Eric John Urban.
Erland was a hard worker all of his life and was known to help people however he could. He worked at Abbott Ball as a machinist for many years and worked part time at Sam's Club as well. In 2023 he and wife Eileen moved to Milliken, Colorado in order to be close to his aging mother.
Erland was a great father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, children Karla Urban of Southbury CT; Erland (Milly) Urban of Hartford, CT; Eric (Cecilia) Urban of Magnolia, TX; sisters Ranae (Tom) Williams of Loveland, CO; Rhonda (Ted) Rutledge of Parker, CO; grandchildren Felix Urban, Erimal Urban, Eric Urban and Elias Urban. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Ryan (Emily) Williams, Angela (Travis) Smith, Taylor (Nick) Downing, Austin Rutledge, Allen Bartz and Alyssa Bartz. Great-nieces and great-nephews include Hudson Downing, Elijah Smith, Rowan Downing, Miah Smith, Brecken Downing, Blake Bartz, Everlyn Downing, Gabby Yates, Benjamin Smith and Leah Smith. He is also survived by brother-in-law Tom (Kathy) Scanlon of Niantic, CT.
Erland was proceeded in death by his parents Oscar Urban and Lorna Miller and by his brother Randy Urban and sister Rebecca Bartz.
