Garrett Scott Eastman

Garrett Scott Eastman, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on August 9, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with opioid addiction. He was 35 years old. Garrett was born on November 1, 1989, in Fort Collins, Colorado, and grew up in a loving family who never gave up on him, and whom he deeply cherished in return.

Garrett attended St. John’s Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade, Loveland Christian High School and eventually received his GED from Morgan Community College. From a young age, Garrett stood out as a naturally gifted athlete, excelling in nearly every sport he attempted—though ice hockey quickly became his passion and remained close to his heart throughout his life. Running became a passion later in his life.

But Garrett was far more than an athlete. He was deeply creative and had a sharp intellect that shaped the many paths he explored. He began working in construction, moved into masonry, and ultimately found his greatest professional passion in welding. It was in welding that Garrett's creativity and craftsmanship came together—he found pride and joy in shaping something lasting and beautiful with his own hands.

Garrett’s strengths were many: his kind heart, sharp mind, athletic talent, artistic ability, and strong work ethic. He loved running, lifting weights, drawing, and creating. But his deepest joys came from the people he loved. He often said his mom was his best friend, and the time he spent with his dad—especially their long car rides together—meant the world to him. His bond with his sister Kellie was filled with heartfelt conversation, laughter, and an unspoken connection only siblings can share. He shared his love of running with his sister Penny.  One of his dreams was to complete a triathlon someday — a testament to his determination and adventurous spirit.

Perhaps one of the most special relationships in Garrett's life was with his niece, Lillian, whom he called one of his favorite people in the world. He looked forward to the day she would be old enough to hear about his journey—directly from him—so she would understand both his struggles and his strengths. That opportunity was realized this past year.

Garrett was almost three years sober prior to his death. He fought hard, always striving to rise above his addiction. One song that inspired him was, “You Are More” by Tenth Avenue North. It reminded him—and those around him—that no one is defined by their lowest moments or the choices they make. He wanted people to see that he was so much more than his addiction. His journals revealed dreams of building a future: a home, a family, and a life filled with purpose and connection.

Garrett once reflected on, “The opposite of addiction is connection.” And in his life, despite hardship, Garrett built meaningful connections—with family, friends, and his own hopes and dreams.

He is survived by his loving parents, Kerry Eastman and Dorma/Jeanie Eastman; his sisters, Penny (Eastman) Morin (husband Chris Morin) and Kellie Ann Eastman; his beloved niece, Lillian Eastman; and his nephew, Easton Morin. He is also remembered by numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him and will miss him.

The disease of addiction does not define Garrett and who he was as a person. Garrett’s life reminds us that every person holds multitudes—gifts, struggles, and untold potential. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a craftsman, an artist, an athlete, and above all, a kind soul who deeply loved and was deeply loved in return.

Though he is no longer with us, his gift of life and spirit lives on in the laughter, love, and memories we carry forward. May Garrett rest in peace, and may his soul find eternal comfort and light with the Lord, our God.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Viegut Funeral Home, 1616 N Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO 80538. This date would have marked Garrett’s 36th birthday — a day to honor his life, his spirit, and the gifts he brought into this world.
