Melvin “Mel” Weimeister

Loveland · Age 86

Melvin “Mel” Weimeister, 86, of Loveland, passed away peacefully after a long illness. He is now with his beloved Lord and Savior.

Mel was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Anne; his daughter Carol Pullem; and his grandson, Jeffrey Griffin.

He is survived by his wife, Lizanne; his daughter Kathy Weimeister and her son, Austin Griffin; his daughter Michele Smith (husband Keith) and their daughters, Lindsey Smith and Samantha Trujillo (husband Ryan); his son-in-law, Greg Pullem; and grandchildren, Nicole Barker, Justin Potts and seven great-grandchildren.

A Life of Faith

From a very early age, Mel loved the Lord deeply. In the 1950s, as a young sailor in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, he held prayer meetings aboard. Throughout his life, he put the Lord Jesus Christ above all else, and he would gladly talk with a stranger about the transforming love of Jesus Christ. Over the years, he served in many roles in his church and its school, and he was deeply involved in missionary work.

A Career of Service

In the 1960s, Mel was a police officer in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Go Blue!). He went on to have a long and distinguished career in technical law enforcement and administration, helping build many successful, far-reaching programs that supported officers on the ground. He served as Superintendent of Communications for the Phoenix Police Department, where he received a special Chief’s Award for saving the city over a million dollars.

The Man We Loved

Mel was an extremely intelligent man, yet he was always available to help. He was kind and generous, and he gave himself freely to the people and causes he loved.

After Jo Anne’s passing, following 64 years of happy marriage, Mel met and married Lizanne. She was a true blessing to him, showing great patience and grace as his health declined. Together they enjoyed thrifting, browsing pawn shops, and listening to many great sermons. Mel enjoyed Lizanne’s fine cuisine! Lizanne was priceless to Mel, and she was reading Bible verses to him right to the end.

Mel’s family is grateful for the love and prayers of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, and he is greatly rejoiced over by the Savior he served so faithfully.

“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
