Dona Lynn Synstegard

Beloved Mother, Sister and Friend

Born February 12, 1949 in St. Paul, MN to Donald and Marvell Grilz. Passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2026. Survived by her sons, Erich and Jonathan, brother Randy Grilz (Sharon), nephews, Matt, Nick , Jason. Preceded in death by her parents Donald and Marvell and brother Donald Grilz JR.

Dona received her bachelor’s degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Masters and Doctorate degrees from Hamline University. Dona received numerous awards and accommodations throughout her career, her favorite was becoming Nationally Board Certified.
Dona devoted her live to education, retired in 2007 from St. Paul Public schools with over 20 years of teaching at Maxfield Elementary. After retirement Dona’s passion for teaching did not end. She returned to teaching and found her second home at Quantum Steam Academy where she taught until she passed away.

When she was not teaching, Dona enjoyed spending time at her lake cabin with her sons and chihuahuas.

Mom, you raised 2 great sons, we are proud of your accomplishments and for everything you have done for us.
Mom you will be missed, we love you.

Service is at 11:00 am Friday September 25th at Willwerscheid West-Heights Chapel 235 W. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul, Interment Acacia Park Cemetery. Visitation 1 hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred.
