Donna Jean Furey, age 93, a longtime resident of West St. Paul and later Mendota Heights, passed away peacefully at Lilydale Senior Living after months of enduring pain with quiet strength. We find comfort knowing she is now at peace, free from suffering and embraced by the everlasting love of her Savior.

Donna is lovingly survived by her children, Scott (JoAnne), Brenda (Mark) Lau, Jerry (Brenda) and Beth (Paul) Loegering, grandchildren, Aaron (Julia) Furey, Luke (Shelby) Furey, Dan (Angie) Novak, Niki (Brad Ehlers) Novak, Mike (Teresa) Lau, Amy (Brian) Skluzacek, Jill (Rey) Garcia, Jess (Nate) Durant, Noah Furey and Colin Loegering, great-grandchildren Devin, Catherine, Lauren, Conor, Leah, Ben, Evelyn, Lexi, Aleyah, Rohm, Kinsley, Juniper, Bode and Ophelia, nephew, Mitch (Jill) Anderson and niece, Julie (Dennis) Carlson, step-grandson Derek (Andrea) Becker and step-grandchildren Maya and Isa. Each carries forward a part of her love and her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Dick Furey, parents, Joe and Thelma Anderson, brother, Jim Anderson, sister-in-law, Jan Anderson, niece, Krissy Anderson and daughters-in-law, Sandy Furey and Holly Furey.

Donna’s life was centered on faith, family and kindness. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose gentle spirit was felt in countless ordinary moments that became cherished memories. A woman of deep faith, Donna found joy in family, lifelong friendships and serving others. The loss of many dear friends in recent years was very difficult for her and she missed them greatly. She was a very active member of Saint James Lutheran Church Altar Guild, decorating the church with banners, flowers, candles and vestments. She found joy in Bible study, meaningful friendships, and a life lived in service to others.

Her happiest moments were often the simplest. She loved tending her flower gardens, working puzzles, playing bridge and enjoying lunch with friends at “the club”. She enjoyed golf, swimming, time at lake cabins and a great bakery (especially a cinnamon or caramel roll and a raspberry Bismarck). She loved to travel with family and friends creating lasting memories on camping trips across the country and journeys to Alexandria, Campers Paradise, Cape Cod, Chicago, Colorado, Florida Keys and Lanesboro and internationally to Mexico and Europe.

Donna had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome. Her kitchen was often filled with the aromas of fresh baking, family recipes and laughter. Holidays, birthdays and her annual St. Patrick’s Day corned beef diners became treasured family traditions.

Donna will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet grace, generous hospitality and the love she shared so freely with those around her. We will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, with visitation at 10:00 am at the Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 235 Wentworth Ave North, West St Paul. Private burial at Fort Snelling will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice.
