Federico Maloyo Nobello Jr.
Apr 10, 1943 — Sep 23, 2026
Federico Maloyo Nobello, also known as Dad, Pang, Grandpa, Junior, Fred or Freddy. To me, he was always Honey. We met in a small farming community in the San Joaquin Valley in California, and at first sight we knew we were destined to be together always. Federico was born on April 10, 1943, in Guadalupe Makati Rizal, Philippines.
He is survived by me, Judy (wife), daughters Remy (Kevin), Melanie, Lydia, and son Federic; grandchildren Maximo and Niambi; brothers Tony (Donna), Ted, sisters Tessie (Boyce), Fe (Bebot), extended relatives Sue, Ayanna, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Federico was preceded in death by Father Frederick Nobello, Mother Remedios Nobello and brother Al Nobello.
Federico worked in the vineyard industry when he arrived from the Philippines. He participated in the farm workers’ strike, helping to get better housing and wages for farm workers. He then joined the restaurant business and was employed by Don the Beachcomber Restaurant as a busboy in Palm Springs and Hollywood. He was transferred to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1966 to help with the opening of their location at the newly built Hilton Hotel. He worked himself up from busboy, to waiter, to Captain, to Manager and became well known in the city of St. Paul during that time. Governors, Mayors, Police officers, Police Captains, and many prominent Businessmen were his friends- he was very well liked. He met many famous people back in the day, actors, musicians, and politicians. To name a few- Dick Clark, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Sammy Davis Jr, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Hope, and Ann Margret before he eventually left the restaurant business in 1986. He was offered the role of hotel Banquet Manager; however, he was done with working nights. Soon after, he was hired at Minnesota Mutual (now Securian) as a microfilmer for 3 years before moving on to their Bindery Press department where he was trained to operate heavy printing and cutting equipment. 17 years later he was happy to retire as he had just become a grandfather. He was a great, loving and proud grandpa and he stepped right up to help care for his grandchildren whenever and wherever he was needed. He was very proud of them and they in turn loved him very much. Federico was always a gentleman, and took the role of husband, father and provider very seriously. He liked to sing, dance, and tease me. He had a great sense of humor- his favorite thing to do was to make me laugh, and he managed to make me laugh most days. He loved to garden and would spend hours making sure to plant what we liked, including my favorites: Serranos, tomatoes, and bitter melons. He will be deeply missed by those of us who loved him. Loving him was not hard. He was easy to love. Honey, loving you for 60 years and forever is the easiest thing I have ever done. Rest easy dear heart.
