David Philip Hawkins Sr.

In loving memory...

David Philip Hawkins, Sr. was born on April 1, 1933 in Columbia, South Carolina and spent his formative years in Fairfield County where he met his wife, Verna. He worked at Richtex Brick as young man and later at South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. in the gas department where he was a member of the Pipefitters Union. Following that he worked with his brothers Tommy, Karl and Heyward in the construction field, eventually becoming self employed in the roofing industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and spending time with his wife and family. He was a member of the First Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lexington.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Verna Rutland Hawkins; sons, David P. Hawkins, Jr., Karl David Hawkins (Reese); daughters, Brenda L. Hawkins, Davida H. Wine; grandchildren, Layla M. Edmonds, Lisa E. Myers (Marvin), Philip (Bear) Hawkins III (Liz), Hannah Vann, Averi Vann, River Wine, Lake Wine; great grandchildren, Tyler Schaphoff, Arabella Hildebrandt, Logan Myers, Kingston (Peanut Butter) Evans; and great great grandchildren Jaxon and Kaiden Schaphoff, Eila, Opal and Hazel Hawkins. Brothers, Tommy Hawkins (Lorrie), Charles (Teddy) Hawkins, Heyward Hawkins (Staci); many beloved nieces and nephews and his four-legged companion, Molly.

He is predeceased by his father and mother, Claude David Hawkins and Jessie Alma Fellars Hawkins and brother Karl Wetzel Hawkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church, 243 Riverchase Way, Lexington, South Carolina 29072.

The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m. on Friday February 20, 2026 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, followed by the service at 2 p.m.

Burial will be held in the Woodridge Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.
