James "Jim" William Covington, Sr.

November 3, 1933 — May 21, 2026

Mr. James “Jim” William Covington, Sr., 92, of Pelion, SC, died Thursday, the 21st day of May, 2026, at his residence following an extended illness.

Born on November 3, 1933, in Charleston, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Otis Earl Covington and the late Betty Westfall Covington Cudala. In 1951, Jim entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He served his Country faithfully with distinct courage and honor. Later, he would marry Barbara Allen and from this union came three sons. In 1995, he moved to Pelion, South Carolina and founded Covington Enterprises of Charleston, South Carolina and retired after many years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, Lexington Chapter. In his spare time, Jim loved woodworking and was extremely talented with his hands. On bright sunny days, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered for his gentleness and the love and kindness he showed his family and all those who knew him.

Survivors include a son, Kim Allen Covington of Summerville, South Carolina; a grandson, Talon Malone Covington of Pelion, South Carolina; a great-grandson, Ethan Malone Covington of Pelion, South Carolina; nieces, Linda Spencer of Oswego, Illinois, Brenda Hinson of Elgin, South Carolina, Bonnie Butler of Lexington, South Carolina, Judy Williams of Cayce, South Carolina, and JoAnn Pigate of Pelion, South Carolina; and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by two sons, James W. Covington, Jr. and John Eric Covington; sisters, Phyllis Dozsa and Wanda Lee Covington; and a brother, Julious Earl Covington.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 27th day of May, 2026 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Park, with Christopher Nettles, RN officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the gravesite. The family is pleased to greet friends in the Mausoleum Chapel from one o’clock until the funeral hour.

Those wishing may make memorial contributions in Jim’s honor to a charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Staff of Interim Hospice for the loving care given.
