Johnny M. Hodge

Johnny Milton Hodge was born on November 21, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Johnie and Ellen Hodge. He was a proud graduate of Eau Claire High School, Class of 1963, and later graduated from Columbia Commercial College.

In May 1966, Johnny began his career with the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully served until his retirement in 2012 following his diagnosis with Parkinson's disease.

Johnny was a man of many talents who could fix just about anything, as his daughter would gladly tell you. He had a passion for woodworking and spent many years building and creating beautiful things with his hands until his health no longer allowed him to do so.

In January 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Hipp, a member of Eau Claire High School's Class of 1965. Together, they have built a wonderful life and have shared many happy years of marriage.

His greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Leah Rebecca. She was his shadow, always by his side, learning countless lessons from him, from repairing things around the house to throwing a softball. The bond they shared was one of deep love, admiration, and friendship.

Johnny was active in the church throughout most of his life, until Parkinson's disease made participation increasingly difficult. He faithfully served as both a Deacon and an Elder at Faith Presbyterian Church. He also participated in mission trips with both Faith Presbyterian Church and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, serving communities in West Virginia and Mexico. For many years, he taught a 12th-grade boys' Sunday School class and genuinely cared for each and every student who came through his classroom.

Johnny loved life. He enjoyed seafood, barbecue, ribs, and Oreos. He treasured time with his family and friends and never missed an opportunity to make memories with those he loved.

Most importantly, Johnny loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. On August 13, 2026, he entered the presence of the One he faithfully served and loved throughout his life.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, hard work, craftsmanship, love, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
