Mary Day
Apr 12, 1936 — Jul 10, 2026
Mary Magdalene Sanders Day, 90, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Born on April 12, 1936, in Anderson, South Carolina, Mary was the beloved daughter of Grady and Willie Bell Sanders.
Mary lived a life marked by hard work, determination, and an unwavering love for her family. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly while raising her two daughters, Deborah and Regina. Being their mother was her greatest joy, and she devoted herself to providing them with love, guidance, and support. She was a devoted Meme to her grandchildren, present at all their births and the close bond they shared remained strong throughout her life and brought her immeasurable joy.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Willie Bell Sanders; her brother, Jimmy Sanders; her beloved grandson, Justin Hooks; and her son-in-law, Donnie Gardner, husband of her daughter, Regina.
She is survived by her husband Mack Day, daughters, Deborah Hooks and her husband, Curtis, and their children, Joshua and Dakotah, Regina Gardner and her children, Courtney and Zachary.
Mary was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother whose family was the center of her world. She had a lifelong love of animals and always shared her home with cherished pets. Her compassion for animals was a gift she passed on to her daughters and her grandchildren … who continue that legacy today.
She enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by working word puzzles and Sudoku every day. And she loved to read! Even into her later years, she remained remarkably independent, taking pride in cooking and embracing new experiences. She recently discovered online shopping, which brought her much entertainment and allowed her to maintain her independence.
She enjoyed hiking and camping with her husband Mack. She loved when they discovered new places and new cuisine.
Mary will be remembered for her strength, tireless work ethic, sharp mind, excellent sense of humor, kind heart, and unwavering devotion as a mother and Meme!!!
