Nicholas Lou Huard, age 81, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Nicholas “Nick” Huard, son of Robert and Ann (Lougheed) Huard, was born on July 15, 1944, in Edon, Ohio. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio State University, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Army, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Upon completing his military service, Nick began his career in sales with General Mills before transitioning into commissary sales. For the last 20 years of his career, he successfully worked in real estate for both McGuinn Homes and Mungo Homes, specializing in new home sales.

Nick enjoyed spending time with his family, antiquing, and gardening, and he took great pride in his yard. He also loved fishing, traveling, and playing cards with friends. He had a fondness for watches, hats, and his pen collection.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet strength, and the simple, meaningful life he built with those he loved.

Nick is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Perez) Huard; his sister, Deborah (Ray) Wenig of Swanton, Ohio; his son, J. Jeffrey Schmidt of Terre Haute, Indiana; his daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Hunter of West Union, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Dylan Hunter of Knoxville, Tennessee; Brandon (Adeline) Schmidt of Roanoke, Virginia; Shelby Hunter of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Morgan Schmidt of Terre Haute, Indiana; as well as three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
