R. Marie Hilliard Newbern

Ruth Marie Hilliard Newbern, age 75, of Lexington, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Lexington Community Hospice House – Agape Care in Lexington, SC.

Marie was a deeply devoted mother, wife, and caregiver to any family member in need. She played an important role in building and supporting her husband’s business. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining, cooking, dancing, and spending quality time with family and friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love among her nieces, nephews, and friends. She is survived by her three children: Brad (Tiffany) Borden, Allison Brinson, and Stephanie (Bert) Smith; four siblings: Ric (Beverly) Hilliard, Steven Hilliard, Brian (Donnis) Hilliard, and Sherry (Allen) Hilliard; nine grandchildren: Kara (Matthew) Turner, Brittany (Duncan) Del Secco, Justin Borden, Matthew Borden, Haylee Rikard, Lindsey Rikard, Olivia Hall, Lauren Hall, and Anderson Smith; and three great-grandchildren: Parker Turner, Everleigh Turner, and Violet Del Secco.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Hilliard; her mother, Ruth Hilliard; and her husband, Joseph Newbern.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lexington Community Hospice House – Agape Care for their kindness, love, and compassion.

Visitation services for Ruth Marie Hilliard Newbern will be held at Woodridge Mausoleum Chapel, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
