Tony Ray Huggins

On September 22, 2026, the world lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Tony Huggins, born January 2, 1952, in San Diego, California, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, SC after a courageous battle with cancer.

Tony's life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication, and his absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose presence brought strength, love, and warmth to those around him. His love was shown not only through his words, but through the sacrifices he made, the lessons he taught, and the countless memories he created with those he loved.

He was the cherished son of the late Rufus and Syble Huggins and the brother of Richard "Rick" Huggins, who predeceased him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Sara, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Celeste Huggins (Brent) and Alyssa Huggins. As a father, he was a source of guidance, protection, and unconditional love. His children will forever carry the wisdom, values, and memories he gave them.

They were blessed with two adored grandchildren, Rezon Isom and Skylar Huggins. As a grandfather, he was especially proud and brought a special kind of joy to his grandchildren. The love he shared with them will remain a treasured part of their lives and will be carried forward for generations to come.

Also, survived by siblings, Marty Huggins (Debbie), Lisa Huggins and many nieces and nephews.

Tony's educational journey began at Pleasant Hill High School, where he graduated in 1970. He further pursued his academic dreams at the University of South Carolina, earning a bachelor’s degree in business in 1974. His career flourished at the University of South Carolina, where he dedicated 28 years as the Director of Contracts and Grants, retiring honorably in 2020.

For 42 years, Tony was an active and devoted member of Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo, SC. His faith and community were central to his life, providing strength and comfort to him and his family.

His playful spirit was evident in the way he cherished moments with his dog, Asher. Tony was an avid sports fan, enjoyed listening to beach music, and loved attending plays and concerts. His warmth and kindness touched everyone he met, making him a beloved figure in his community.

A service celebrating Tony's life will be held on October 2, 2026, with a visitation at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM service at Woodridge Memorial Park and Funeral Home, located at 138 Corley Mill Rd., Lexington, SC 29072. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay their respects to a man who left a legacy of love and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's memory may be made to SCOA Cares, an organization close to his heart or to Gateway Baptist Church, 1651 Dutch Fork Rd., Irmo, SC 29063.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates and the Agape Hospice team for their compassionate care during Tony's battle with cancer. Tony's spirit will live on through the memories and love he shared with all who knew him. His life was a beacon of hope and love, and he will be dearly missed.
