John G O'Connell

John G. O’Connell, 79, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at Banner Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Staten Island, New York, John lived a life defined by hard work, community service, and love for his family.

John spent his early adulthood in San Rafael, California, working as a carpenter and serving as a volunteer firefighter in Ross. In 1980, he moved to Texas, where he spent many dedicated years as a truck driver. An avid sports fan, John passionately cheered for the San Francisco 49ers and Giants and loved spending time playing golf.

John is survived by his loving wife, Judith O’Connell; stepdaughters, Debbie and Kristie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan and Timothy O'Connell, and his sisters Maureen Musto and Margaret “Peggy” Tooker. Though our hearts grieve this loss, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and know John “Poppy” is at peace reunited with loved ones in the presence of our Lord.
