Lupita “Lupe” Lopez Madrid, beloved mother, Mana, Nina, sister, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on December 17, 1952, in Nogales, Arizona, to Jose Maria Lopez and Guadalupe Medina Lopez. Lupe left Nogales as a baby and was raised in Mammoth, Arizona.

Lupe graduated from San Manuel High School in 1971. While in high school, she worked as a cashier at P & R Supermarket in Mammoth. In 2000, she moved to Show Low, Arizona, where she made her home. She later worked as a waitress at her sister’s restaurant, La Casita Cafe, in Show Low until her retirement.

Lupe took great pride in herself and her appearance. She was always impeccably groomed, with her hair and makeup done, her nails beautifully maintained, and her arms adorned with bangle bracelets, rings, and necklaces. She also loved staying active. In the late 1980s, she was an aerobics instructor and continued her daily workouts for many years.

Family was at the center of Lupe’s life. Her children were her greatest accomplishment, and she was a loving and supportive mother to Christopher Madrid of Phoenix, Arizona; Gabriel Madrid and his wife, Mandy, of Gilbert, Arizona; and Jovanna Garcia and her husband, Richard, of Show Low, Arizona.

She was lovingly known as Mana to her nine grandchildren: Hannah, Andreya, Christopher, Nicholas, Isaac, Gianna, Mason, Adrian, and Arianna. She treasured watching them play sports, talking with them, and simply spending time together.

Lupe loved to cook, especially homemade Mexican food, with flat enchiladas and flautas among her favorites. She loved to dance, laugh, and listen to Tejano, cumbias, oldies, mariachi, and country music. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, and proudly followed the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lupe was a woman of Catholic faith who loved her family deeply. Even in her final moments, her thoughts remained focused on those she loved. She told her children that she loved them, thanked them, and reminded them to be happy, take care of themselves, and take care of their families. Her love and devotion to her family remained with her until her final breath.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Maria Lopez and Guadalupe Medina Lopez; her brothers, Luciano, Ricardo, Roberto, Ernesto, and Cornelio Lopez; and her sisters, Maryellen Aranda, Margaret Villalobos, and Adela Lopez.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, as well as her siblings: Genevieve Lopez of San Manuel, Arizona; Virginia Corona (Joe) of Tucson, Arizona; Joe Lopez (Carol) of San Manuel, Arizona; and Rosa Madrid (Patrick) of Clovis, New Mexico.
