Beck's Tribute Center traces its origins to 1951, when Steven and Martha Lou Beck established Beck's Funeral Home in Edmonds. According to local historical accounts, including retrospectives published by The Seattle Times, Edmonds' early funeral services were informally divided along denominational lines, with Swedberg's — later Baker's Funeral Home — traditionally serving the city's Protestant families, while Beck's Funeral Home, founded by a Catholic family, became the location where the city's Catholic families brought their deceased. Historians note that both businesses moved to serve the broader public over the following decades. Their son, John B. Beck, took over ownership in 1977 and operated the business for two decades while also serving as a Washington State Representative and co-founder of the Bank of Edmonds. In 1979, Beck's purchased Baker's Funeral Home, unifying the city's two earliest funeral home lineages under one family-owned business. In the 1980s, the Beck family also acquired Restlawn Memorial Park, a nearby cemetery that has continued to coordinate arrangements with the funeral home. Following John B. Beck's death in 1997, the business continued under the extended Beck family until it was sold in 2006 to Jim and Nancy Letson, at which point it was rebranded as Beck's Tribute Center.
