II Corinthians 5:1 Kingsport - Dorothy Gladys Edwards, 93 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday April 21, 2015 at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born in Dickenson County, VA, April 12, 1922. She resided most of her life in Kingsport. She was the daughter of Walker Stevenson and Barbara Bel Edwards. After the death of her father at early age, she was raised by her step father, John Henry Sutherland and mother. She was a member of Dyers Chapel Baptist Church in Clinchco, VA. During WWII she worked for Hudson Motor Company in Michigan as a riveter. She also worked a brief time at Kress Dept. Store in Kingsport. She enjoyed raising flowers and conversing with neighbors. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by one brother, Clayton Sutherland of Michigan; three sons and their families, Bobby G. Singleton, Jessee C. Edwards and wife Darlene, Clinton Darrell "Tootie" Edwards and wife Yvonne; along with nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. The family will received friends from 6 pm to 7 pm on Friday April 24, 2015 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday April 25, 2015 at Sutherland Ridge Cemetery, Clinchco, VA. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family has asked in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Kingsport Boys Club. The family would like to thank all the workers at Churchill Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Wellmont Hospice for their excellent care and service that they have provided. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Edwards family.
