Wayne McNeill
July 12th, 1935 - April 8th, 2020
Wayne McNeill, 84, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday April 8, 2020. The family will have a private graveside service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Cemetery, Colfax, NC. A native of Harnett County, NC, Wayne was the husband of Polly Holt McNeill and the son of the late Lena Edwards. He leaves behind his faithful wife of 65 years, Polly of the home; two sons, Kerry McNeill and wife, Kelly of Kernersville, and Robin McNeill of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Karen Hatcher and husband, Tony of Fremont, NC, Denise Hammond and husband, Robert of Kernersville, NC, and Melissa McNeill of Kernersville; grandchildren, Sheena, Kayla, Amber, Melena, Maggie, Dean, Stephen, Grace, Toni, and Annie; great grandchildren, Bentley and Sienna; one brother, J. C. Edwards of Fuquay Varina, NC; two sisters, Joyce Compton of Christianburg, VA, and Barbara Trujillo of Sanford, NC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Wayne McNeill and Anthony Wayne “Tony” McNeill; and two brothers, Larry Edwards and Mike McEdwards. Wayne was a lifelong machinist until his retirement. After he retired he spent his time making beautiful woodworking projects and gardening, as well as spending time with family. He loved his life, his family, his church and teasing almost everyone he knew. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He was a meticulous machinist and carpenter, and everything he made was of expert quality. He was an avid gardener as well as a mentor to close friends and neighbors on the finer points of gardening. He was especially adept at cultivating weeds. Wayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Colfax. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Spending eternity with his Lord will be his greatest accomplishment and waiting for his loving wife to join him so they can be together for eternity. “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39. After the crisis is over we will have a Celebration of Wayne’s life at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Colfax.
