Marion Christine McCarthy (formerly BOWERS, of Treasure Island) passed peacefully on February 13th, 2013 Wednesday after a short time with a terminal illness. She is survived by her daughters, Carol McLaine (husband - Ray R. McLaine) of Westlake Village, Ca and Diane Broadwater of St. Petersburg, Fl; one granddaughter, Katherine Broadwater of St. Petersburg, FL and one grandson, Scott McLaine of Scottsdale, AZ; and one sister, Ethel Mazrum of Alton, Il. Additional Family member survivors include Her sister-in-law, Carole Toth and many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. She was born in Westville, Il on 10/29/1922; eldest daughter of Steve and Raymonde Toth. She had 4 siblings. She graduated Salutatorian from Westville Township High School. She was very active in sports and athletic programs. After Graduation, she went to work for Ford Motor Company where she was placed in charge of the first Address-A-Graph system which became the first mass mailing system in the US. She met her first husband, Earl Bowers Jr., in Detroit, MI and married Nov 1945. They moved onto Paradise Island of Treasure Island, Florida in 1952 where she was a resident for 25 years. She was involved in many volunteer and community activities. She then became an avid sport fisherman; winning many awards and trophies for Tarpon, Sailfish and Marlin through out FL, NC, the Bahamas, and Mexico. After many victories in the sport fishing world, she was the first woman from the west coast of Florida and she was sponsored by Dottie Mellon of the Mellon Family of New York into the IWFA (International Women's Fishing Association). In 1976, after marrying Raymond McCarthy, she relocated to St Pete Beach, where she resided for 37 years. She worked at McCrorys at Dolphin Village; additionally volunteering her services at Palms of Pasadena with her sister, Ethel Mazrum, for many years. She was a very active resident of Boca Ciega Isle of which she held the position of Treasurer for the Boca Ciega Isle Civic Association for many years. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Sister to her survivoring relatives and will be greatly missed. There will be a private cremation, therefore, in lieu of flowers, please send any donations you wish to give in her memory, to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760. David C.
