Mary Jane Wiltz-Batiste was born October 18, 1940 in Cecilia, Louisiana to Martin and Beatrice Wiltz who welcomed her into their huge loving family of 9; 4 boys (Wallace, Ernest, Junius, and James) and 5 girls (Leona, Amelia, Doris, Mary and Shirley). They were all raised under the strong Catholic faith. Out of all of her siblings, she's only been survived by sisters Amelia, Doris, and Shirley. Early as a teenager, Mary moved to Los Angeles, California under the care of her eldest brother Wallace, his wife Nellie, and other brother Ernest. While in Los Angeles, she attended Jordan High School. Shortly after becoming an adult, she met her first love Roy C. Batiste. Roy and Mary joined in marriage May of 1960. In the early stages of beginning their family, Mary migrated with her husband, Roy, to Henderson, Nevada, and then to Las Vegas, Nevada where they lovingly raised 6 children. Unfortunately, losing her husband Roy to a very tragic incident in 1972, she was left to raise the family alone. Mary entered into the Las Vegas Hotel Industry as a Housekeeper, thus joining the Culinary Union for many years. She had served in the Housekeeping field for a few different hotels but became vested with the Sands Hotel and Casino. Throughout the span of her life, Mary J. Batiste has tremendously touched the lives of many. She was known for her huge heart of gold and willingness to provide anything for those she met and loved. She was the most kind, and gentle person and only wanted to make all situations better. Not always having financial freedom, Mary was ingenious and used her great knack for cooking and gained a huge demand for her popular hot meals. She's an angel of earth that will truly be missed by many. Mary will always live in the hearts and memories of us all. She leaves to cherish her memory, children; Rene Batiste, Andre Batiste (wife-Karen}, Pandora Lovett (Ken Beaman), Carlos Batiste, Jackie Batiste-Sanders, and Don Batiste (wife-Sandra). Grandchildren; Jamar (deceased), Jason, Danielle, Jahlona, Belynda, Lonice, Andreya, Courtney, Keenan, Alexis, Summer, Andreus, Ekomie, Aiyiko and 6 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Monday, January 23, 2012 at St James The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 1920 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Las Vegas, NV. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 22 from 1:00-4:00 pm at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV.
