Basil Lee Sherrow, 80, of Greeley, CO died Friday, March 12, 2010 at his home. He was born January 8, 1930 in Fordland, MO to Basil and Ella (Sartin) Sherrow. Basil attended school in northern Colorado and graduated from Eaton High School in 1948. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman on an LST, El Dorado from 1948 to 1952. During his service his ship went through the Panama Canal in route to Point Barrow, Alaska. On July 24, 1954 he married Lee Borgeson at Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley. Basil was an over the road truck driver for local firms and retired in 1992 from N.W. Transport. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served as Junior Warden from 1992 to 1996. Basil was also a member of the Eaton American Legion and helped with the Colorado Shares Food Program. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Lee Sherrow of Greeley; sons, Steven (Judy) Sherrow of Nebraska City, NE, and Eric (Esther Hoff) Sherrow of Denver, CO; daughters, Carolyn (Joe) Velasquez of Farmington, NM, and Nancy (Dale) Weimer of Windsor, CO; sisters, Wanda Arnold of Loveland, CO, and Norma Barnaby of Eaton, CO; and a brother, Gerald (Joan) Sherrow of CA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Madalena, Caitlin, Matthew, and Nicholas Velasquez, Jacob and Nathan Sherrow, Emily and Benjamin Weimer; two nieces; and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Teresa Velasquez; a daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Dice Sherrow; and two brothers-in-law. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley. Inurnment will follow the service in the Trinity Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to "Trinity Episcopal Church” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Ave. Greeley, CO 80634.
