Kenneth Cyrus Harshman, 92, of Meridian, died on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Kenneth Cyrus Harshman was born October 21, 1932, the 14th of 18 children, 9 girls and 9 boys. He often said there were so many kids, they didn’t have to go to the neighbors to pick a fight. Ken grew up near Wilder, Idaho and graduated from high school in 1950. He worked for a couple of years before being drafted into the Army in 1953. He spent 18 months in Germany and after his discharge, he went to college to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Upon his college graduation, Ken secured a job with the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington, D.C. He worked a block from the Washington Monument. After retiring, Ken moved back to the Treasure Valley and had a house built near Star. His property had a 3-acre yard which included a large garden, an orchard, and a small vineyard. He hosted many memorable family gatherings there.
When the home and yard became too much for Ken to handle, he sold his house and land and moved to Alpine Meadows assisted living in Meridian in 2021. He made many new friends and enjoyed the variety of activities there. He passed four days after turning 92 years old.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Bertha Harshman; seven brothers; and seven sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Thelma Lammey and Barbara Kelso; one brother, Melvin (Marie) Harshman; several sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14th at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. (208) 459-0833
The family would like to thank the staff of Alpine Meadows and Journey Hospice for their care of Ken.
