Floyd J. Wernimont, 87, of Greeley, passed away on October 22, 2024 after a short stay in hospice. Born on November 23, 1936 in Auburn, Iowa to Joseph and Anna (Kohart) Wernimont, Floyd grew up in Carroll, Iowa and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School.
He married Joan Greteman in 1956 and they had four children; Mark, Denise, Deanna and Brian. They divorced in 1986. Floyd later married Barbara Jo “BJ” Haller and they divorced in 2010. In 2014, Floyd then married Sharon “Sherry” Marrazz.
Floyd spent over 40 years in Fort Collins, living in various home he had built. He also designed and built a home in Larimer County Colorado and had houses and businesses in Cave Creek, Arizona and later moved to Greeley, Colorado.
Floyd had a long career in the lumber industry, starting in Carroll, Iowa, before moving to Gering, Nebraska. He managed a lumber yard in Lincoln, Nebraska, which later gave him the experience to start his own lumber business. He established Collins Cashway Lumber in Fort Collins, Colorado and later relocated it to Loveland where it thrived.
Floyd was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii. He loved simple pleasures like playing cards, grilling, photography and sipping his favorite drinks.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Sherry, his children; Mark (Theresa) Wernimont, Denise (Joe) DeBonville, Deanna (Tom) Woods and Brian (Kathy) Wernimont, BJ and her daughter, Natese and Sherry’s daughter, Barb, along with 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn and his brother, Franklin as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan, his parents and seven siblings.
Cremation has taken place and memorial arrangements will be announced. Condolences may be shared to his family at AdamsonCares.com.
