Shirley Faye Deroo (née Morgan), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, in Greeley, Colorado, at the age of 92. She was born on March 15, 1933.
Shirley grew up in Colorado, spending her early years in Platteville and Gilcrest before making Greeley her longtime home. She attended Platteville High School, where her vibrant personality shone through. A natural social butterfly and a spirited cheerleader, some even said she closely resembled child star Shirley Temple. It was at Platteville High that she met her future husband, Donald Jack Deroo, embarking on a lifelong journey together.
Her professional life was dedicated to the RE1 Valley School District, where she served as a highly regarded secretary for over 20 years. Working first at the elementary school and later at the middle school, Shirley found immense joy in her role, particularly cherishing her relationships with co-workers. She was widely considered one of the best school secretaries in the district, known for her efficiency and warm demeanor.
Shirley's heart was truly centered on her family. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Jack, until his passing in 2004. In 2008, she found companionship again with Joseph Ryden, who was her devoted partner until his death in February 2025. Shirley was a loving mother to her two sons, Brent Alan Deroo and Bradley Brian Deroo. Her nurturing spirit extended profoundly to her grandchildren, whom she considered her greatest pride and joy. She notably took on the pivotal role of raising her oldest grandchild, Karlyn, from third grade through her high school graduation, providing unwavering care and guidance.
Her dedication to her grandchildren was unwavering; she strived to attend every game, concert, and event, with sporting events being her absolute favorite. Shirley would beam with pride from the sidelines, even attending a few of her oldest great-grandson Chase's sporting events. After every game, she eagerly recounted the highlights and, most importantly, the accomplishments of her grandchildren or great-grandchild to everyone she knew.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Jack Deroo; her life partner, Joseph Ryden; her son, Brent Alan Deroo; her brother, Bill Morgan; her parents, James and Pearl Morgan; and her grandson-in-law, Tobey McCreath.
She is survived by her son, Bradley Brian Deroo, and his wife, Carolyn Deroo. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Karlyn McCreath, Abby Deroo, Brady Deroo, Jordan Deroo, and Bryce Deroo. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Chase McCreath, Cheyanne McCreath, and Caden McCreath, as well as other great-grandchildren whom she was never able to meet.
e held on Friday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m. at The Adamson Celebration of Life House in Greeley, Colorado. A luncheon will follow the service, after which interment will take place
