Verlin Q. Morrison (aka “Jim”) passed away peacefully at his home in Del Rey Oaks, surrounded by his loving family on May 27, 2025 at age 96. Jim was born on March 14, 1929 in Stiltner, West Virginia to parents Pearley and Eskaline Morrison. He was the second of seven children. He was a devoted son, beloved husband, and cherished father and grandfather.
After high school Jim joined the Army. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he met and married his beautiful wife, Alice Gregorio. Jim and Alice settle on the Monterey Peninsula in the 1950’s, where together they worked hard and raised their family. Jim retired from the Army after a 20-year career. He was also a business owner and had a contract with the US postal Service to run the Big Sur mail route for many years, as well as hauling the mail from Salinas to San Jose 7 nights per week.
Jim is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice, his sons; Greg (Nancy) and Steve (Gerlinde), granddaughters Hannah, Kate (Jaime), Holly, Katharina, and great-granddaughter Tala. Jim also has many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jimmy; his parents and all his siblings.
A service honoring Jim’s life will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025 mat Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero in Monterey. Visitation will be from 8:30 -9:30 am with a Memorial Service beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey.
