Florendo Stacy Saclayan Jr., a proud U.S. Army veteran and 38-year resident of Marina, California, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of his family after a life defined by service, dedication, and joy.

Born in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, Florendo lived a life of commitment and purpose. He retired from the United States Army in September 1988 after nearly 23 years of honorable service, including two tours in Vietnam. His military career was marked by courage, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to his country.

After his military retirement, Florendo continued to serve the public with dedication, working for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2011.Florendo was an active member of St. Jude Parish, where his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted participant in the Laoaguenians of Monterey County, a supporter of the Fil-Am community, and a passionate advocate for the Filipino Scouts, honoring the contributions of Filipino veterans who served alongside U.S. forces.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Luzviminda Saclayan, who stood faithfully by his side through every chapter of life. Together, they were known as ballroom dancing extraordinaires, sharing elegance, rhythm, and joy on the dance floor for many years. They also shared a deep love of travel, including cherished visits to the Holy Land, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and Mexico.Florendo leaves behind his children: Reynaldo (Cynthia) Saclayan, Edward Saclayan, Elizabeth Saclayan, Florendo III (JR) Saclayan, and Emily (David) Streets; and grandchildren: Chelsea, David, Heather, AJ, Ryker, Rylan, and Ronin, each of whom carries forward his legacy in their own way.He is also survived by his siblings: Beverlyn (Vicente) Villegas, Emmanuel (Zolita) Saclayan, and Marie (Tirso) Usuquen, who remember him fondly for his warmth, strength, and dedication to family.Above all, Florendo was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, his steady presence, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued and loved.A public visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PMat Mission Mortuary Chapel, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey, CA 93940.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 303 Hillcrest Avenue, Marina, CA 93933.Burial services with military honors will follow at 11:00 AM at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Rd, Seaside, CA 93955.Celebration of Life will be after the funeral on 7/29 starting about 12:30pm -at St. Judes Catholic Church at 303 Hillcrest Avenue in Marina, CA. Please note this is a strictly scheduled service by the VA Cemetery, and guests are encouraged to arrive early.In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to a veterans' organization of your choice in Florendo’s memory
