In Loving Memory of Allen S. Bjork

Allen S. Bjork (born Aug. 18, 1931) passed peacefully on his 94th birthday (Aug. 18, 2025), in the Melbourne, FL, apartment he shared with Kay, his wife for 67 years and the love of his life. They were holding hands as his soul left this world.

A Connecticut native and son of two Swedish immigrants (Edith and Karl Bjork), Allen grew up in Stamford, enjoying an idyllic and adventurous childhood with his older brother Willie (still living).

Allen served in the US Army for two years during the Korean conflict - meeting Kay at the beach the day before he shipped off. They wrote often as he traveled to Italy, where he served as a supply sergeant.

When he got home, he attended the University of Connecticut (thanks to the GI Bill) and the lovebirds married at the Church of St. Mary in Stamford on June 21, 1958. Soon afterward, Allen started a career as an insurance agent, and chose a transfer to Nashville, TN, a town and state he grew to love - although it was tough being a Yankee salesman in a Southern place. When the company wanted Allen to move again, he quit, choosing to stay in his new homestate and attempt a new profession: stockbroker.

His focus on service and his customers was the key to his success. He retired in his mid-50s. An avid golfer, he played twice a week until age 90, and walked 2-3 miles daily.

He skied the Alps, parasailed in Mexico, caught lobsters in Long Island Sound, cruised to Jamaica, attended the Masters practice rounds,  and enjoyed much more travel - but he preferred staying close to home: tending his tomatoes, feeding the hummingbirds and “puttering around” the house. (He thought duct tape could fix anything.)

A few years ago, the couple moved to Florida, to be closer to their daughter.

Survivors include wife Katherine (Kay) Weber Bjork, brother Carl Wilhelm, daughter Karin, son-in-law Mark, son Karl, daughter-in-love Carla, grandchildren Allen Steelman Bjork and Jennifer Nicole Miller, and several nieces and nephews.

No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allen’s memory would be welcome for Vitas hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Skål to long life well lived.
