Paul Raymond Thomas, born June 24, 1950, in Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away on August 23, 2025. He moved to Florida as a young boy, where he grew up and built a life full of service, adventure, and love.Paul was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Lois Thomas, and his sister, Linda Means. He is survived by his sister, Betsy Thomas Parker; his brother, Tim Thomas; niece, Lisa Yarrow; nephew, Brian Barrack; his lifelong friend, Bob Pitt; and his loving partner for life, Patti Knowles.A man of many passions, Paul loved sailing, surfing, traveling, and cooking for those he cared about. He especially enjoyed building, sailing, and showing traditional wooden boats, and his love of history—particularly the local history of Florida—was a constant thread in his life. He was a proud member of the Manatee County Historical Society and the St. Petersburg Museum of History.Service to others defined Paul’s life. He served his country in the Peace Corps, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Army, from which he later retired. Closer to home, he volunteered with the Manatee Historical Village, Turning Points, the Cortez Cultural Center, and other community organizations. Paul also worked as an electrician for Manatee County, where he helped organize a union for county employees.Those who knew Paul will remember his deep compassion, his adventurous spirit, and the many ways he gave back to his community and those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and service.      A Celebration of Life will be held at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Avenue West on Saturday, Sept 6 at 3 pm.   The family is deeply grateful to Hospice House for their compassionate care.
