Olga Schechter, 96, passed away September 21, 2025 in Castle Rock, Colorado.  Olga was the first of five children of German immigrants, Roman Wolff and Erika Böse.  She lived in Franklin Square on Long Island until she boarded a train to Sterling College in Kansas where she met Dale Schechter. They married June 15, 1947.  Olga survived Dale, her siblings, in-laws and eldest son Steven Schechter (Gunnison, CO; 1951-2022).  Olga’s living children, Dayle Anne Schechter (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Randal Schechter (Castle Rock, CO), Susan Schechter (Lafayette, IN) and Stan Schechter (Templeton, CA) honor their mother for the care and support she and Dale provided in our formative years in Midland MI.

Once her handful of towheaded progeny were off to grade school Olga went to work to help send them to piano and ballet lessons, Boy Scouts and college.  Her career in education and social services culminated as a founder of the Midland Emergency Food Pantry, Council on Domestic Violence and Shelterhouse women’s shelter.  The Midland Chapter of the National Organization of Women recognized Olga as the Feminist of the Year in 1982.

In retirement Olga and Dale moved to Castle Rock, CO to live near their sons. Olga and Dale volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and local service organizations, enjoyed traveling and visiting their 13 grandchildren. After Dale’s death in 2000, Olga moved to a cozy straw bale home built by her son Steven in Gunnison for a score of years before entering assisted living near her son Randy in Castle Rock.
