Barbara Ann Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at John Muir Hospital in Concord, California, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on November 12, 1935, in Wisconsin to Richard and Agnes Thompson. She graduated from West Lima High School and later moved to California, where she lovingly raised her sons and built a meaningful life rooted in family and faith.
Barbara retired from Chevron Corporation after a successful career. She was deeply devoted to her church and her faith, always finding joy in fellowship and gathering with friends for lunch. Known for her positive attitude, warm smile, and kind heart, Barbara had a special gift for helping others and spreading encouragement wherever she went.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bernie and Renee Marvin, and Steve and Shelly Marvin; grandchildren Angela (Nate), Melanie, Natalie (Pete), Tiffany (Mike), and John (Brenna); 18 great-grandchildren; her brother Richard (Shirley) Thompson; sister Darlene Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Agnes Thompson; her son, Jeffrey Wayne Marvin; and her brother, Gaylord Thompson.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N Main Street, Walnut Creek, California. A reception will follow at the Pleasant Hill Community Center, 320 Civic Drive, Pleasant Hill, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Barbara’s memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Barbara’s caregiver, Carla, for her loving care and companionship during the past year.
