Colonel Zuberbuhler, 85, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Judy; brother Doug Zuberbuhler and his wife, Pat; daughters Carolyn Goetz and her husband Jerry, and Jennifer Heisler and her husband Chuck; and grandchildren Caitlyn Goetz, Alex Heisler and his wife Cami, Cheyenne Goetz, Rory Heisler, and Beau, his beloved basset hound.

Rudy was born in Colfax, Washington on May 5, 1940. He grew up in the heart of eastern Idaho where his father worked in various U.S. Forestry Service camps. This is where he learned the values of hard work, humility, and integrity that guided his life. After graduating from the University of Idaho through the R.O.T.C. program, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for almost 29 years where he became a Command Pilot and was very proud to serve as an F-15 Squadron Commander in Florida. His greatest challenge during his career occurred on September 12, 1972 when he was shot down over North Vietnam and became a prisoner of war until repatriation in April, 1973. His many years of service reflected his deep sense of duty, courage and love of country. Among his many medals are the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with 4 devices, Bronze Star medal with a “V” device, Purple Heart with one device and a Meritorious Service Medal with 2 devices.

Rudy and Judy built a life together grounded in love and devotion in which they raised their two daughters, Carolyn and Jennifer, who brought them immeasurable joy — and sometimes a little frustration. Grandpa Rudy was a proud grandfather who was deeply adored by his grandchildren.

Rudy will be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp wit, and generous heart. He had an easy smile, a gentle humor, and a way of making others feel heard and valued. Whether sharing stories from his time in the Air Force, working on a project around the house, or spending time with his grandchildren, Rudy approached life with a calm steadiness and genuine care for others.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His family and friends will remember him not only for his accomplishments, but for the example he set —- a man of faith, humility and deep devotion to those he loved.

Accent Funeral Home

A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
